Two Ports - Two Ferry Lines
Dublin has two ferry ports served by two ferry lines. The destination in all cases is Holyhead in Wales.
So, why the two ports? Dublin Port is on the north side of the city, just over the only bridge over the lower Liffey River. Both Irish Ferries and StenaLine use Dublin Port for their traditional RoRo Ferries (Roll On Roll Off). The trip from Dublin to Holyhead takes a little over 3 hours.
For those in a hurry, StenaLine runs its High Speed Service between Holyhead and Dun Laoghaire on the south side of Dublin Bay. Travel time is about 90 minutes.
All the ships are modern, comfortable and fun. For a fun day's outing, many Dubliners head over to Wales in the morning and return in the afternoon, enjoying in a single day something of the ambience of a sea cruise.
There are extensive parking facilities at both ports or you can bring your car aboard - the "roll on roll off" part of the service. Both ports are serviced by buses private and public, by taxis and by DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) trains in the case of Dun Laoghaire.
