Dublin's Public Transportation

Dublin Airport and Air Travel

Though one of the busiest airports in Europe, successive governments have dithered for decades about opening a much needed second passenger terminal at Dublin Airport. The advantage for travellers in the current arrangement is that you can't possibly get confused about which building to use. The disadvantage, of course, is the vast concourse of people shoved into one large, but not nearly large enough, building.

There is, at present, no connecting rail link to the airport. For bus information, see the information and links a short way down this page..

Dublin Airport On-line

Dublin Airport on-line is a private service that links into ebookers.ie, a popular travel site. The information presented here, particularly about bus routes to the airport, is much clearer than the official site. And you can get the same live arrival and departure information as the official site - at the cost of a teensy casino ad.

Route and charter flight information is also available. Basically, if you need to find out something involving Dublin Airport, this site will have it or link to it.

Dublin Airport Site

Not a great site, but you can get miniature maps of Dublin airport and the access roads. Just be sure to have your microscope ready. Dublin Airport is managed by AerRianta, the government owned semi-state airport authority.

Flight information such as arrivals and departures are up to the minute, however. And, if you go to the Index and choose the Ground Transport button, you can get the information you need about buses to the airport.

Buses and Coaches to the Airport

It takes roughly 30 minutes by bus to go from the City Centre to Dublin Airport.

Airlink Express
For Phoenix Park House visitors, the important airport service is Airlink Express. This is the express non-stop bus service run by Dublin Bus that leaves Heuston Train Station every 10 to 20 minutes. Fares are reasonable from €4.50 single, €2.00 for under 16's. The buses roll starting at 07:15 in the morning and the last one leaves Heuston Train Station at 22:50.

Local Bus
For those with plenty of time and no money, there's the Number 16 bus. This local bus costs only €1.45 for adults and leaves from O'Connell Street in the heart of the city. You'll get to visit every bus stop on the way out of the city.

Dublin Airport On-line Transport Guide
The site presents the full menu of bus and coach service to Dublin airport. If you're coming from Galway or Waterford, Dublin or Belfast there's a bus on this list for you.
